Application of liquid epoxy in cathodic protection

It is used in three layers of epoxy powder. Three layer PE coating is developed on the basis of epoxy powder coating in order to make up for the poor mechanical strength of powder coating. Liquid epoxy is usually used for field joint coating of epoxy powder anticorrosive coating.

1¡¢ Performance requirements of liquid epoxy materials

1. Surface treatment: the surface of coated body can meet the requirements of SSPC SP10, NACE 2 or Sa2.5 after sand spraying, and the depth of anchor grain is 50-100 ¦Ì M;

2. Construction tools and conditions: use two-component airless spraying machine (spraying grade) or hard bristle brush (brush coating grade);

3. Construction environment temperature: when the ambient temperature is lower than 10 ¡æ or the ambient temperature is not above 3 ¡æ of dew point temperature, the coated body shall be heated, but the temperature must be kept below 60 ¡æ, and the construction shall be stopped when the relative humidity is higher than 80%;

4. Recommended construction thickness: considering the anti-corrosion performance of the product and the importance of anti-corrosion of elbow, the coating thickness of the product is recommended to be 0.7-1 mm according to the diameter of the pipe;

5. Drying time: ventilation condition, temperature, humidity, film thickness and metal surface temperature have certain influence on drying time.

2¡¢ Analysis of advantages and disadvantages of liquid epoxy joint coating

1. Curing at room temperature and fast curing speed (1 hour surface drying, 3 hours solid drying, which can effectively improve the construction efficiency);

2. It has excellent bonding strength with the substrate, and the test result of ASTM D 4541-2 is more than 14MPa;

3. Excellent toughness and impact strength;

4. Good solvent and chemical resistance;

5. The thickness of 1 mm film can be achieved by one brush coating or spraying, and the designed film thickness can be achieved at one time (it can effectively avoid the coating delamination caused by multi-channel coating construction, and also greatly improve the construction efficiency);

6. There is no volatilization in the construction process, so the construction is safe;

7. High film quality, due to no volatilization of any volatile components, the coating rarely produces pinholes, and the coating is dense and highly shielding;

8. The biggest advantage of liquid epoxy joint coating is that it will not produce cathode shielding. Even in the process of construction, the coating will be damaged due to bumping. Because of its compatibility with cathodic protection, it will not corrode at the damaged point.
